You may not know it, but even today, in the poorest parts of the world, there is a devastating and staggering childhood disease, called Noma. Its victims, children aged between 2 and 6 years old, reach more than 140,000 each year, who are in 90% of cases condemned to a death without appeal.
The disease manifests itself as gangrene in the face, leaving the few survivors completely disfigured, bruised and suffering from enormous speech and social integration difficulties. It develops in conditions of extreme poverty, where malnutrition, lack of hygiene and care are rampant.
Also, in order to fight this disease from another time and to put an end to the atrocious suffering endured by the victims of Noma, Noma Fund has launched the action plan “Acting against Noma 2021-2030”.
This plan, which includes raising awareness among populations at risk, preventing the disease, and building a hospital and care centres to treat and reintegrate Noma victims, involves the various actors and local governments in countries affected by the disease.
Nevertheless, despite all our goodwill, the scope of our action and message cannot have the desired effect without your support. You, the leaders of the world’s greatest powers, are at the heart of the success of this action plan.
That is why we call for your support in the fight against Noma, and ask you to please include the fight against the disease on the agenda of the next G20 summit. We also request your approval for the holding of the “International conference for the eradication of Noma”, which Noma Fund wishes to organize in order to effectively implement the means defined in the action plan “Acting against Noma 2021-2030”.

What is the purpose of signing the appeal to the heads of state of the G20 and UN member states?
It is with the purpose of raising awareness and sensitization on Noma disease that the appeal to the heads of state members of the G20 and the UN, supported by Noma Fund association, is being launched. Bringing to their attention the very existence of Noma disease, its devastating consequences, and the simplicity of the means required to eradicate the disease for good, are the short, medium and long term goals of our appeal.
Signing the appeal to the leaders of the G20 and UN member states means allowing the poorest children to escape a disease that still kills 90% of its 140,000 annual victims. Let’s put an end to this injustice!
