STATE OF HEALTH EMERGENCY
Appeal to the UN General Assembly for the recognition of the state of health emergency
Sign the appeal to the United Nations General Assembly to re-evaluate Noma disease as a global health emergency and to put in place the necessary means to eradicate this disease from extreme poverty.
For the recognition of the state of health emergency for Noma
Appeal launched by Noma Fund association
Their excellencies, members of the United Nations General Assembly,
The cause for which we are launching this appeal is the cause of Noma. Disease of extreme poverty, unknown in the most industrialized areas of the world, Noma is nevertheless extremely deadly. It devastates 140,000 children every year, all from the poorest communities in South America, Southeast Asia and Africa, and aged between 2 and 6 years. When it does not kill their victims, the disease leaves them stigmatized forever, leaving horrible traces of this devastating gangrene on their faces.
Disease of poverty and injustice
We would like you to consider this disease, which today only appears in 7th place in the world’s health emergencies. However, in reality, Noma kills 90% of the children victims of the disease, and only requires a simple antibiotic injection when the first symptoms appear.
Awareness-raising campaigns on the disease and prevention of symptoms and first aid, aimed at at-risk populations as well as local health workers, are simple ways to end Noma.
How can a disease so dreadful, yet so easily curable, still exist, devastating thousands of innocent lives in our time?
By recognizing the state of health emergency for Noma disease, you, members of the UN General Assembly, are in a position to allow these means to be put in place, and to radically accelerate the process of eradicating the disease.
It is possible to save all these ruined childhoods, and to put an end to this disease of misery.
They support the petition against Noma
To date, the state of health emergency for Noma disease has not been recognized. However, this recognition would allow an accelerated and effective implementation of all the means required to fight against this disease, which affects more than 140,000 children every year”.
“Acknowledging a state of health emergency for noma is acknowledging the tragedy of noma patients.
It is high time to act on behalf of these children, who are dying in their thousands, victims of their precarious conditions. Let’s save the noma children who still have time to be saved!”
“The UN General Assembly has a leading role to play. The recognition of a state of emergency can lead to an end to a tragedy that no longer exists. Noma can be cured or even eradicated in a short time, if the necessary means are quickly put in place. Let’s put an end to this disease”
“The General Assembly of the United Nations can put an end to this age-old disease. Let’s not forget that this disease, taken care of at the right time, only requires an antibiotic treatment worth ten euros. Together let’s make sure that it disappears forever and that these children have a future”.
What is the purpose of signing the petition for recognition of the state of health emergency for Noma disease?
FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF APPROPRIATE MEANS
The implementation of appropriate means is one of the sine qua non conditions for the eradication of Noma. To do so, its recognition by the UN General Assembly as a global health emergency is essential!
FOR A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISEASE
Being aware of Noma means putting all the chances on our side to fight it! Also, raising awareness among at-risk populations and training local medical teams are key elements in the disease eradication process.
TO ACCELERATE THE ERADICATION OF NOMA
The recognition of Noma disease as a global health emergency would accelerate the development of the political, human and material resources to eliminate the disease. In a few years, it is possible to eliminate Noma.
